When can Udyr's activated ability be used, and what if Monastery spends his buff?

Udyr's ability is an activation you use on your turn outside showdown timing. If Monastery spends the buff on conquer, you draw and then must create a new buff before using Udyr's buff-dependent ability again; since Monastery says 'may', you can decline to spend it.
