Does Vanguard Captain's Legion count a token played earlier this turn?

If I played a Viktor token first and then play Vanguard Captain, does that satisfy Legion, or does Legion require a main-deck card to have been played?

It requires the proper main-deck card condition; a token play does not satisfy that Legion check for Vanguard Captain in this context.
