Does moving a unit from base count as playing it to a battlefield?

A battlefield has an ability that lets me pay 1 to give a buff to a unit I play there this turn.

If I move a unit from base to that battlefield instead of playing it from hand, can I use that pay-1 buff ability on the moved unit?

No. Moving a unit is not playing it. Playing means putting a card onto the chain from your hand, from hidden, or from your champion zone.
