Can you play a Reaction between spells while a Showdown chain is resolving?

During a Showdown, Player 1 casts an Action spell and both players add Reactions, then let the chain resolve. After the top Reaction resolves but before the Action beneath it resolves, Player 1 wants to cast another Reaction such as Abandon against that Action.

Is that legal?
