Can Arena Kingpin activate during showdown to buff itself before dealing damage?

Arena Kingpin can exhaust to give a unit +3 Might. If it is ready in showdown, can it activate that ability then so it buffs itself before damage, or is that activation timing restricted to non-showdown windows?
