Does Defy counter both instances of a repeated Alpha Strike?

If Alpha Strike is repeated, creating two separate instances of its effect, can a single Defy counter both, or do you need Defy twice?

A single Defy only counters one spell. To stop both instances of a repeated Alpha Strike, you need Defy twice. Each repeat instance is a separate action and you are not forced to choose the same units for the repeated cast.
