Does moving a unit to base save it from Vengeance?

If I target a unit with Vengeance and my opponent moves that unit from a battlefield to base in response, does it still die? Would returning it to hand instead save it?

Vengeance does not care where in play the unit is, so moving it to base does not save it. If you remove the unit from play entirely, the spell can no longer target it and mistargets without killing it.
