Can I react before my opponent sacrifices Kog'Maw for Malzahar, and is there a window after Malzahar resolves?

My opponent attacks a battlefield I control with Kog'Maw while neither player has a When I Attack or When I Defend ability there. Is there a window for me to react before he sacrifices Kog'Maw to activate Malzahar? If Malzahar adds resources, can either player react after it resolves but before focus is passed?
